So far, six hybrid rice varieties II Youming 86, II Youhang No. 1, Teyou Hang No. 1, II Youhang No. 2, Tianyou 3301, and Yiyou 673 have been cultivated in Fujian Province and recognized as super rice promotion by the country. Improved varieties account for 15% of the Chinese three-line hybrid super rice.
Super rice is referred to as super-high-yielding rice, which refers to a new rice variety whose resistance and quality are similar to those of the control, but whose yield is greatly improved. The breeding and promotion of superior rice varieties has made important contributions to China’s total grain output for eight consecutive years.
Researcher Huang Tingxu of Rice Research Institute of Fujian Academy of Agricultural Sciences said that "Yiyou 673" has the characteristics of wide adaptability, super high yield, high rice quality, and resistance to rice bran. Rice detection has reached the national standard for high quality rice, and has passed Fujian, Guangdong, Yunnan, and the Yangtze River. The new rice varieties in the downstream rice cultivation zone were approved by the Ministry of Agriculture in 2010 as the national leading rice variety and obtained the rights of the new plant variety. In September 2011, the Ministry of Agriculture appointed the expert group in Wenfeng Village, Jinan Town, Yongsheng County, Yunnan Province. Accepted on-site inspection of the 135-mu “Yiyou 673†demonstration site, with an average yield of over 1050 kg per mu.
Fujian has developed breeding and cultivation techniques for super rice with Fujian characteristics in space rice, ratooning rice, and high-quality rice, and has been popularized in cooperation with Southeast Asian countries and regions such as the Philippines.
Fujian has successfully bred 6 superior super rice varieties, 4 were cultivated by the Institute of Rice of the Fujian Academy of Agricultural Sciences led by the academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Xie Huaan, and 1 was cultivated by the Institute of Biology, Fujian Academy of Agricultural Sciences, among which Xie Hua'an et al. II Youming 86 has promoted more than 3,000 acres.
It is understood that in order to protect food security, China will promote the planting of 100 million mu of super rice this year, and will promote 150 million mu of super rice by 2015, accounting for 34% of the rice planting area in the same period.
