One, timely harvest, to avoid mechanical damage. To finish before and after frost, choose sunny harvest. When harvesting sweet potatoes, minimize or avoid the production of wounds.
Second, select healthy potatoes, safe access to the pit. Before the sweet potato is introduced into the pit, it must be carefully selected to eliminate diseases, residues, and rotten potatoes, and the potato block should be dried for 1-2 days to promote the healing of the block. Use the new pit as much as possible during storage. Before using the old cellar, the old soil in the pit shall be removed to expose new soil, and sulfur may be used for fumigation and sterilization.
Third, strengthen the management of the pits. Sweet potato should be ventilated within 2-3 weeks after entering the pit to prevent excessive temperature and humidity in the pit. The cold period should be well-insulated and the cellar temperature should be maintained at 12°C-14°C. In the spring of the following year, the cellar temperature should be checked frequently, and the cellar temperature should be maintained at 10°C-14°C in time for venting or cellaring. It was found that the diseased potato was completely cleared and brought out of the pit.
