Zoll Medical Devices Inc. has developed the world's first "wearable atrial defibrillator" that can be worn around the patient's waist. The design has won the "North American Health Care Product Innovation Award" for its novel design.
According to the developer, more than 400,000 people in the United States die each year from cardiac arrest caused by atrial fibrillation. Although there are various atrial defibrillator products on the market, most of them are large in size and very inconvenient to carry. Once a heart attacker goes out to work or suddenly has atrial fibrillation on his way to work, it is too late to transfer to hospital for treatment. The newly developed wearable atrial defibrillator is small in size and consists of two parts. One is a shoulder strap with a pocket biosensor that can measure abnormal heart signals such as atrial fibrillation, and the other is a size like a normal electronic dictionary. The detector is usually hung around the patient's waist.
The working principle of the product is: the monitor constantly monitors the patient's heartbeat situation. Once the patient's heartbeat is abnormal (atrial fibrillation is about to occur), the command is issued, the command defibrillator is turned on, and an electric pulse is sent to restore the patient to normal. Heart rate, eliminating the deadly threat of sudden cardiac arrest in patients with atrial fibrillation.
